UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi NewsThe Entebbe Chief Magistrate Court has remanded Charles Kyagaba, a man accused by numerous Wakiso residents of terrorising them and seizing their land.

Charles Kyagaba, a resident of the Buziga Cell in the Makindye Division, was sent to Kigo Prison until September 26 by a court presided over by Chief Magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis.

Kyagaba, who was arrested earlier this month by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, is accused of destroying Ms Margaret Kyomuhangi’s home in Ziru Village, Wakiso District, and is charged with intentional damage.

According to the allegations, on April 23, the accused and three other people—Mr. Benon Kabuusu, Robert Komakech, and one Wasswa—illegally demolished Ms Kyomuhangi’s home on the pretence that she had constructed it on Charles Kyagaba’s land.

Later, Kyagaba refuted the accusations. He requested a bail hearing through Mr Evans Ochieng, one of his attorneys.

“Our client has been on remand; we have presented substantial sureties with all their documents. We request this honourable court to grant him bail,” Mr Ochieng implored the court.

Kyagaba’s bail application was rejected by Resident State Attorney Jannat Kitimbo, who claimed that she needed more time to review the bail documents.

“The court is mandated to give an opportunity to the complainant to establish any information before the decision to grant bail; therefore, we need to be given time to verify the documents presented by the sureties to enable us make proper reply,” Ms Kitimbo said.

Ms Carol Kobwa, the sister of the complainant, said: “We are happy this time that since the State House arrested him, we think that this time we may get justice because we have been running to different police stations but were never helped, therefore, it’s good that he has been denied bail.”
