UGANDA, Lira | Real Muloodi News | The High Court in Lira has issued a ruling stopping the sale or allocation of police land in Erute near the new Akibua Stadium in Lira Central Division.

The court reasoned that the land belongs to the Uganda Police Force, and district authorities had no right to sell or allocate the plots.

Lira District Council and Lira District Land Board were accused of acting outside their constitutional parameters in dealing with the land.

The case was filed in 2018 by three individuals, Stephen Alele, Isaac Omora, and Anthony Odur, who asked the court to declare the sale and alienation of the land as unlawful and prejudicial to the interests of the Uganda Police Force.

The accused parties were accused of deliberately denying officers of the Uganda Police Force from utilising the land and affecting their role in maintaining law and order.

The court ruled that the land in Erute, comprising of residential premises of staff quarters at Ireda Housing Estates and land comprising administrative units and residential premises at Ojwina Division, belongs to the Uganda Police Force.

The judge held that the actions of the Lira District Council and Lira District Land Board were a breach of holding and interfering with the use of the property that falls within the ambit of the Uganda Police.

The case was initiated after a public notice was issued in July 2018, inviting the public to apply for the allocation of plots at Erute for development. The ruling is expected to have significant implications on the sale and allocation of land in the area.
