UGANDA, Kasese | Real Muloodi News | A destructive fire engulfed the boys’ dormitory at Margherita Demonstration School in Kisanga Cell of Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, resulting in the loss of property worth millions of shillings.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, leaving devastation in its wake. Kato Annon, a Primary Seven Pupil, recounted that the fire broke out around 8 p.m. while they were attending classes.

The sudden power fluctuations preceded the inferno, catching the students off guard. Annon lamented the loss of all their belongings to the blaze.

Responding to the emergency, SSP Moses Nanoka, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander, extended condolences to the affected students and emphasised the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He assured the pupils of their safety and pledged to collaborate with the school administration in addressing the situation.

Expressing concern over the incident, Nanoka assured the students that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and ascertain any liability for the lost items.

He underscored the importance of ascertaining accountability and providing answers to the affected families.

As the night progressed, anxious parents converged at the school, eager to reunite with their children. However, access to the premises was restricted for safety reasons.

Tensions flared between parents and security personnel as some insisted on taking their children home immediately, defying security directives.

Despite the emotional pleas of concerned parents, security officials stood firm on the safety protocols, advising against immediate evacuation.

Nevertheless, a compromise was reached, allowing some parents to take their children home while others opted to remain on the school premises.
