UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi News | Maj Gen (Rtd) Elly Kayanja has denied purchasing a contentious piece of land that is at the center of a land dispute with residents of Bulindo Village residents in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

It was reported that Gen Kayanja allegedly paid Shs111b to purchase the 559-acre piece of land at Block 182, Plot 1448 Kyadondo in October of last year, leaving the Bulindo Village residents to face eviction. The land hosts a Catholic church, a school, several farms and residential houses.

However, Gen Kayanja now claims the land is not his.

“I have never owned any land title in the names of Elly Kayanja of any land in Bulindo, you can find out from the Registrar of Ministry of Lands, I even have no single decimal of land in Bulindo, so if they are giving me three acres, thank you very much,” Gen Kayanja said.

Notwithstanding, in a conflicting statement last year, Gen Kayanja stated that he purchased the land from one Japhes Wagumbulizi, although the land title did not include his name.

In January, Dr Sam Mayanja, the State Minister of Lands, informed Brig Henry Isoke, the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, about the row in Kyadondo County over land which Gen Kayanja had previously claimed possession of.

Subsequently, Mr Baker Mugaino, the Commissioner of Land Registration, instructed that the titles for land in Kyadondo Block 182, measuring 226.170 hectares, be recalled for modification.

According to competing claims, the dispute began last year when the former UPDF General is alleged to have sent plain-clothed armed men to monitor the site as numberless graders levelled part of the contested land. The move prompted probes from several government entities.
