UGANDA, Luweero | Real Muloodi News | Two individuals, Baguma Obed and James Kakuru, have been remanded in Luweero District over allegations of land grabbing.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, they denied charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to residents of Manyama Village in Zirobwe Sub-county, Luweero District.

Preliminary police investigations have indicated that these individuals, allegedly working on behalf of a notorious land grabber known as Rutangambwa, have been terrorising over 3,000 residents of Manyama and Budima villages for years in an attempt to force them off their ancestral land.

Further investigations have unveiled a disturbing pattern in which Rutangambwa allegedly hires individuals from various parts of the country to commit heinous crimes and engage in excessive violence against the residents.

The gravity of these actions prompted a visit from Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba, who subsequently requested the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. This ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects.

The Police Crime Report highlights that Luweero witnessed the highest number of cases of malicious damage to property in 2022, with a total of 172 reported incidents. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need to address land-related conflicts and violence in the region.
