UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | A freehold land title covering 922 acres in Butoloogo Sub-county, Mubende District, has been officially cancelled following allegations of fraudulent acquisition. The directive was issued by Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba during a meeting with affected residents on Jan. 22, 2025.
The land title, registered under Tubikak [U] Limited, allegedly included property belonging to residents of Biwalwe Village without their consent.
“Let that title be cancelled, and we have peace in the area. There is no way you can register land which does not belong to you. That is a fraud of the highest order,” Nabakooba stated.
Residents claim the company demanded payments to cover registration expenses, despite the land being rightfully theirs.
“We are a poor community relying on seasonal farming. Many people cannot afford the money we were asked for,” said Biwalwe Village Chairperson Spriano Bacuza.
Mubende Woman Member of Parliament Hope Grania Nakazibwe supported the cancellation, citing evidence that the land title was fraudulently obtained.
She had previously advised locals to negotiate with the company, but the minister rejected this, affirming the land was acquired unlawfully.
Company representatives were absent from the meeting, and attempts to reach them for comment were unsuccessful.
Mubende District Chairperson Michael Muhereza Ntambi had suggested cooperation between locals and the company to transfer the title, but residents opposed this due to the alleged fraudulent activities.
In Kawumulwa Village, similar disputes were reported. Village Chairperson Peter Nsubuga described cases where landlords allegedly coerced tenants into unfavourable agreements and sold the land without transferring titles.
“Many people are victims in this area,” he said, alleging police involvement in enforcing fraudulent deals.
Residents have appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to support them through the Land Fund to secure legal ownership. Investigations into the land title cancelled and related claims are ongoing.
