UGANDA, Mubende | Real Muloodi News | Kampala police are investigating Makerere University lecturer, Francis Kimbowa, from the school of forestry and environmental studies, over land fraud.
The investigations have revealed that in March last year, Kimbowa got UGX 350 million from Alice Nayebare so he could give her 100 hectares of land in Mubende District.
In 2021 April, Nayebare went to survey the land with Kimbowa in Mubende. She did due diligence about the land at the land registry, which showed that it was free from incumbrances.
According to investigations, in May 2021, Nayebare and Kimbowa signed off the land purchase agreement, which was to the effect that the money would be paid in instalments. Nayebare eventually cleared the arrears and expected to take possession of her land.
However, Kimbowa did not hand over the certificate of the title even though Nayebare paid all the money.
Mr Kimbowa was contacted through a phone call and questioned about the matter.
He responded, “I know about the matter but the woman’s intentions are to malice me. If that land has issues, I have another land to give her but she is busy taking me to police, media and even calling my bosses at Makerere University.”
The Kampala police metropolitan area deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, affirmed that Jinja Road police is still investigating the matter under the offence of obtaining money by pretences.
He added, “this incident was reported two weeks ago and investigations have been on going but ,members of the public should be cautioned that before you purchase land, make sure you make due diligence both at the relevant offices and on the ground.”
