UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The National Building Review Board (NBRB) of Uganda launched a campaign this week to raise awareness about the Building Industry Management System (BIMS) in the cities of Kampala, Mbarara, Arua, Gulu, and Soroti.

BIMS is a digital platform that enables the government and stakeholders to monitor and manage all building developments in the country. The platform was developed by the NBRB in collaboration with the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) and launched in December 2022.

Flavia Bwire, the NBRB Executive Director, says that the system allows developers to apply for building and occupation permits, pay building control fees without middlemen, schedule routine building inspections, and receive instant feedback online. She adds BIMS is helping to clear the backlog in building applications and provides a standardised platform to enforce building laws consistently.

Additionally, users are able to verify accredited professionals on the platform. Architects, engineers and surveyors are encouraged to to create an account and upload their digital stamp and practicing certificates. These professionals can also acknowledge/confirm building related applications in which they have been mentioned.

The NBRB campaign aims to encourage the public to access all building control services through BIMS. The system is integrated with other government agencies such as the Uganda Revenue Authority, Lands ministry, and NIRA to ensure that the data entered corresponds with the information registered in other departments and agencies.

Interested individuals can access the system through http://bims.go.ug.

To promote the campaign, pre-recorded adverts will run during prime time in the morning and evening from Monday to Friday on Capital FM, Etop, Rupiny, Arua One, and Radio West for three months. Talk shows will also be held once a month on CBS, KFM, Rupiny, Arua One, Etop, and Radio West.

The NBRB hopes that the campaign will improve efficiency, safety, and standards in Uganda’s building sector.
