Police Searching for Site Engineer After Wakiso Building Collapses, Killing One Injuring Two

UGANDA, Wakiso Real Muloodi NewsOn Monday afternoon, a storeyed building collapsed in Katale, Bukwenda, Wakiso District, killing one person and injuring two others.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police are looking for the site engineer who fled after the building he was constructing, collapsed.

The builder who died after the collapse was identified as Oscar Nsamba, 19, of Katale-Bukwenda.

Two other builders, Ibra Muganzi, 22, and Damasco Mugogo, 19, were caught in the catastrophe and only escaped with serious injuries.

According to reports, the site engineer who escaped was only identified as Rashid.

“As police, we retrieved the body and conveyed it to Mulago hospital mortuary. We are interested in talking to the engineer only identified as Rashid although he is currently in hiding,” said Deputy KMP spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire.

Meanwhile, the police have identified a lady named Dorcus Nakasii as the owner of the collapsed building.

“Today, May 16, 2022, at around 1 pm in Katale Bukwenda, Wakiso district, a building belonging to Dorcus Nakassi collapsed, killing one builder,” said Owoyesigyire in a statement.

He also says the incident is being investigated and further information would be released later.

This month, five people have died as a result of collapsing buildings. On May 6, four people died after a building in Ndejje Kibutika collapsed, while eight others were injured.
