UGANDA, Mbale | Real Muloodi News | The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), in collaboration with the Uganda Police, made significant arrests involving six officials from Mbale City Council on Wednesday, 28th June 2023.

The arrests come as a result of ongoing investigations conducted by the Unit in Mbale City, uncovering various corruption allegations.

Martin Busiku, the former Town Clerk of the Northern Division, is facing accusations of irregularly committing the government to contracts worth USh74 million.

Additionally, he is suspected of embezzling over USh150 million through the under-assessment of property rates.

The Speaker of Mbale City Council, Myriam Nambuya, and the Clerk to Council, Annet Wawule, allegedly conspired with certain councillors to pass a motion that irregularly reduced the property rate from 8% to 4%.

It is believed that the motive behind this action was to receive kickbacks from property owners within Mbale City.

Kigenyi Abdul, a Senior Human Resource Officer, stands accused of including ghost workers on the payroll, resulting in a loss of over Ugx 100 million in salary payments by the government.

Furthermore, he is alleged to have made irregular payments amounting to USh3 billion to 401 secondary schools and tertiary employees who were not even registered in the official database of the Education Service Commission.

Wandera Charles, the Principal Health Inspector, has been implicated in the misappropriation of funds. He allegedly embezzled revenue collected from medical examination fees and suitability fees by issuing false receipts to applicants, diverting the money for personal gain.

Emmanuel Gidudu, an Assistant Accountant in the Industrial Division, has been arrested for his involvement in embezzling funds.

While serving as an accountant, Gidudu allegedly colluded with the former Town Clerk of the Northern Division, Mr Kutosi James, to embezzle over USh43 million that was designated for the fencing of Mayor Mbale Primary School.
