UGANDA, Kamuli Real Muloodi News | A 17-year-old with sickle cell disease urgently requires USh3.5 million to retain a house purchased by well-wishers for his family in Kamuli District.

Ramathan Musigwa Kato, the breadwinner for his family, shoulders the responsibility of supporting six people, including his ailing mother and his 13-year-old sister’s child, in Kakira Parish, Magogo Sub-county, Buzaaya County.

Kato assumed this role as the heir to his father, who was allegedly poisoned to death over a land dispute. The land agreement for their house indicated a cost of USh5.5 million, but well-wishers could only raise USh2 million, which was paid as a down payment.

On June 30, Moses Mutaka, Kato’s family acquired a 30 by 100 feet plot with a one-bedroom house in Buzanya LC1, Magogo Parish, Magogo Sub-county, Kamuli District.

The house was purchased from Kamuyat Nabirye Namboira, who received a USh2 million down payment.

Mutaka said, “USh2 million was paid, and we hope the balance of USh3.5 million will be provided through God’s providence and love for Kato.”

He added, “We thank the willing team of local donors who have encouraged us to do more impact journalism as accountability.”

The sales agreement was signed on July 7, witnessed by area Defence Secretary Grace Wambuga and Kato’s regent, Julius Ssekazi. The remaining balance is due by or before July 30, 2024.

Kato has also been re-enrolled at Kawule Primary School with the help of a well-wisher who sponsored his two sisters. He insisted that without him, his sisters would be “unsafe.”

The sisters, Asia Nalango and Shadia Kadende were placed in Primary One, while Kato initially joined the Nursery section.

During break time, he asked to return home for breakfast and later joined Primary One to monitor his sisters. He then progressed to Primary Two, where he currently studies.

“I am going to live longer, and those who killed my father should apologise because after my studies, I will join the Police and arrest them. Thank you NMG-U for changing my fortunes and building my future,” Kato said.

Kato’s class teacher, Beatrice Namulondo, described him as “an inquisitive and fast learner who has adjusted quickly to the learning environment and has made a few friends.”

She added, “Kato needs a lot of love, attention, and encouragement; he is a fast learner and selective in picking playmates and friends but always has an eye on his siblings as a protective father. He needs a lot of counseling to forget the past that is haunting him, and that is why we usually invite his confidant Julius Ssekazi for advice.”
