UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Many people complain about how hot it gets every year, regardless of how many heat waves we have. Here are some tips you can adapt to keep your house cool.
Mind Your Windows and Doors
Keep your windows closed to keep the heat out throughout the day, but you should open them in the morning and late in the day, or essentially after the warmest period has passed.
The key is to keep the air flowing in your house. To achieve this, ensure your windows are open at night. This will produce a draught and let air freely circulate within your house.
Nighttime is the most crucial time to keep your windows open while you sleep. The air is cold at this time, which will keep the house cool at night.
Block Out the Sun
The sun is the primary source of heat during the day, so it’s essential to block it out as much as possible. Close your curtains or blinds during the hottest parts of the day, and consider installing reflective window film to reduce the amount of heat that enters your home.
Boost Your Fan
Many residential dwellings rely on fans to chill the air since they lack air conditioning.
Place a sizable dish of mounded ice in front of your running fan. This will serve as a temporary air conditioner by circulating cool air around the space.
It is crucial to set your fan for the best cooling since, when misaligned, they circulate the same heated air.
The key to making the most of your fan is to direct it toward an open window, especially at night, so that it can push warm air outside and chill the space.
For a comparable cooling effect, reverse the direction of your ceiling fan if you have one.
Cook Outside
Cooking generates heat, so try to avoid using your oven or stove during the hottest parts of the day. Instead, fire up an outside grill to prepare meals.
Modify Your Hot Water Bottle
Stay cool by using your dependable hot water bottle. Fill your water bottle with tap water and freeze it for a few hours. Then place the bottle at the foot of your bed.
Deal with the Garbage
Your rubbish may smell worse due to the heat. To keep your house fresh and cool, put a little baking soda at the bottom of each new liner to absorb the smell, and put a little more in the trash each morning.
Keep Natural Indoor Plants
Did you know that houseplants improve your mood and keep your home cool? Fresh plants in your home cool the atmosphere in any room they are placed.
Plants are natural air conditioners, releasing moisture into the environment through transpiration.
Peace lilies and rubber plants are the most heat-efficient since they thrive in humid environments.
Therefore, keeping a few indoor plants will automatically cool your house.
Sometimes, by the end of the heating season, your lush plants will be nothing more than long stalks with a tiny bloom at the end.
Cut roughly half the stems two-thirds of the way to the root for a quick cure. Within a few weeks, the clipped stems will blossom with fresh blooms, and then prune them once in a while.
Just remember to water them occasionally and or when the outside temperature rises.
By following these tips, you can keep your home cool and comfortable this summer without breaking the bank. So, enjoy the warm weather while staying cool inside your home.
