Museveni Orders Investigation into Property Tycoons in Alleged Bogus Land Compensation Claims

UGANDA, Kampala Real Muloodi News | President Museveni has ordered an investigation into why the government is dispensing billions of shillings in compensation to property tycoons, who appear to be colluding with government agencies in the creation of fake land titles and bogus land compensation claims.

It is alleged that the city businessmen collude with Lands Registry officials to create dubious land titles in wetlands, gazetted forest reserves, lake and river shores, and on public lands where planned infrastructure projects like roads, railways, and power lines are slated to take place.

Upon the commencement of the government infrastructure projects, these businessmen submit the fake land titles and demand billions of shillings in compensation.

Named in the alleged collusion are Property Tycoons Ephraim Ntaganda, Godfrey Kirumira, Sudhir Ruparelia, and Hassan Basajjabalaba.

All of the dubious titles that the State House are investigating lack official minutes, official instruments, official URA tax and are registered in fictitious names and companies.

Sudhir denied the charges on Monday, February 21, and could not be reached for further comment.

The Inspector-General of Government, Beti Kamya, confirmed that the president has directed her to investigate the businessmen’s land dealings.

“It’s true I have instructions to investigate and prosecute those people,” Kamya said on Monday.

President Museveni has also ordered an investigation into all government ministries that appear to be working in collusion with the scam to steal from the government.

As such, investigations have commenced into several ministers, permanent secretaries, and officials in the ministries of Energy and Mineral Development, Lands and Housing, Lands Registry, Works and Transport, UNRA, Office of the Attorney General, and Ministry of Finance and Planning.
