UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi News | 75-year-old Dr Apollo Kaggwa has cried foul accusing Sam Mayanja, the Minister of Lands and Urban Development of conniving with some Wakiso residents to grab and sell his said land of 250 cares.
According to Dr Kaggwa, he acquired the said land in the 1990s and paid off the inhabitants.
Since the payoff, the land was vacant for almost 20 years until the last few years when Dr Kaggwa noticed an inflow of unknown people claiming ownership.
It is alleged that those unknown persons together with Minister Sam Mayanja have claimed it and have even shown intentions to sell despite Dr Kaggwa earlier compensating all squatters.
Dr Kaggwa claims to have all supporting documents and has run to court. He also sought Presidential intervention seeking justice.
Efforts to reach Minister Sam Mayanja were futile.
This is not the first time Minister Sam Mayanja is involved in a controversy regarding land. There was a report in 2021 that Minister Sam Mayanja was sued over a land deal.
The details of the lawsuit were related to allegations of corruption, political influence, or the exploitation of vulnerable communities in the allocation and ownership of land.
Mayanja was accused of abandoning his fiduciary duty as board chairman of Feed The Children Uganda Limited and colluding with two individuals to transfer 0.3 hectares of land, located in Mulago on Block 29, Plot 68.
On August 10, 2021, a ruling by Justice Henry Kawesa, the High court consolidated all the cases regarding this matter into one. He also ordered Mayanja and Capson Limited to be added as defendants to the suit.
“I find various discrepancies regarding the status of all respondents who took part in the consent. There is an illegality glaring on record regarding the legal status of the 3rd respondent,” reads Kawesa’s ruling. “An illegality once brought to the attention of court cannot be allowed to stand.”
