UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | A fire that broke out on the evening of Wednesday April 19 has destroyed several houses, including the traffic office at Ntinda Police Station in Kampala.
According to Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the full extent of the damage has not yet been fully ascertained, however, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that it was caused by two children who had set a fire that spread to the barracks and then to the traffic office. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.
The fire prevention and rescue services responded promptly to the fire outbreak and managed to put it out.

However, the destruction of the traffic office means that the police have lost an essential operational base, affecting their ability to carry out their duties effectively.
Furthermore, the loss of housing for police officers and their families has created an additional burden on an already overstretched system.
This fire at Ntinda Police Station is not an isolated incident, as there have been several other fires in Kampala in recent months. In February 2023, a fire at Makerere University destroyed the iconic Main Administration Building, causing significant damage to the University’s administrative and academic functions.
Similarly, in March 2023, a fire at Nakivubo Blue Primary School destroyed two classrooms and the headteacher’s office. Later that same month, another fire gutted Gagawala Arcade in Downtown Kampala destroying property worth millions as onlookers watched helplessly from a distance.
