UGANDA, Karamoja | Real Muloodi News | Local leaders in Karamoja are expressing their reluctance to work with the two ministers responsible for the sub-region in light of the ongoing saga involving the diversion of relief items.

Ministers of Karamoja Affairs Mary Gorreti Kitutu, her junior Agnes Nandutu, and State Minister for Planning Amos Lugoloobi have all faced charges before the Anti-Corruption Court related to the iron sheets scandal.

The leaders believe that a reshuffle is necessary to address the continuous theft in the ministry and restore trust in the region.

Ismail Mohamed, the Mayor of Moroto Municipality, acknowledged the importance of the whistle-blowers in exposing the scandal but expressed the leaders’ stance of having no further business with the two ministers.

Mohamed emphasised the need for a reshuffle and left the decision to the President.

Similarly, Ben Peter Loburo, the Chairperson for Iriiri Sub-county, felt that little value was being placed on Karamoja given the handling of the matter by senior government officials.

Paul Lokol, the District Chairperson of Nabilatuk, expressed disappointment with the judicial system’s handling of the iron sheets scandal.

He raised concerns that those still in office could potentially involve themselves in another scandal, highlighting the issues of abuse of office and corruption.

Lokol advocated for a homegrown politician to oversee Karamoja affairs and bring about the necessary reforms.

In response to the corruption allegations, the Karamoja Parliamentary Group (KPG) called for reforms in the Office of the Prime Minister to address the existing loopholes that have facilitated corruption and impunity.

The absence of clear management systems has created an environment prone to corruption, leading to frequent arrests of technical personnel within the office.

The KPG fraternity urged the government to take action and address the systemic issues.
