Makerere University Professor Urges Real Estate Dealers to Combat Land Wrangles

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Professor Wilber Ahebwa, a senior lecturer at Makerere University, has called upon real estate dealers to collaborate with the government in addressing the widespread land conflicts currently plaguing Uganda.

Rather than assisting in resolving these issues, Prof. Ahebwa highlighted that many real estate dealers are exacerbating land grabbing, thereby tarnishing the industry’s reputation.

Speaking at the grand opening of Genesis Wealth International Ltd, a real estate firm in Kampala, Prof. Ahebwa expressed concern over the escalating problem of land fraud in the country.

He emphasised that some individuals involved in facilitating land transactions are complicit in fraudulent activities, further complicating the situation.

Prof. Ahebwa urged the proprietors of Genesis Wealth International Ltd to uphold honesty and integrity in their operations to restore trust in the real estate sector.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Stephen Kiyingi, the managing director of the company, shared his personal experience of falling victim to land fraud.

Having previously worked overseas (“Kyeyo”) and witnessing many individuals eager to invest in land back home, Mr. Kiyingi emphasised the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in real estate transactions.

He assured the public that Genesis Wealth International Ltd is a registered and tax-compliant entity committed to safeguarding its clients’ interests.

Mr. Kiyingi outlined the range of services offered by the company, including land buying and selling, boundary opening, title processing, engineering surveys, and topographic surveys.

Amidst growing concerns surrounding land disputes across the country, Mr Kiyingi acknowledged the role of land brokers in collusion with landlords, leading to the disenfranchisement of tenants from their rightful land ownership.
