UGANDA, Mubende | Real Muloodi News | President Yoweri Museveni has pledged to use the Land Fund to pay off absentee landlords and Mailo landowners in Mubende District, safeguarding the rights of Bibanja holders in areas facing land disputes.
Speaking at a rally in Kasambya, Museveni said, “It is good that some people have already been settled using the Land Fund in Mubende. We plan to use the Land Fund to pay off the landlords and Mailo landowners. The Bibanja holders will not have trouble thereafter.”
The president’s visit to Mubende is part of his ongoing presidential campaign ahead of the upcoming elections. During his address, he highlighted the government’s development projects, including tarmacked roads in Mubende, and promised to establish a public university and upgrade at least three Health Centre III units to Health Centre IV facilities.
Mubende District NRM chairperson Thomas Ainebyona commended the government’s infrastructure efforts, urging that the Land Fund be extended to other areas affected by land disputes. Youth leaders also called for a district-based vocational skills training institute to address unemployment in the Greater Mubende region.
Museveni emphasized the government’s programs for wealth creation and skilling opportunities, highlighting that employment is not solely provided by the government. Mubende District RDC Fred Nayebare Kyamuzigita noted the ongoing challenges in land management but confirmed efforts to protect Bibanja holders under current land laws.
The NRM has historically maintained strong support in Mubende, winning all four parliamentary constituencies in the 2021 elections. The president’s promises aim to further address land disputes, unemployment, and infrastructure development across the district.
