UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, inspected Hoima City Stadium, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards at the 20,000-seat facility designated for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gen. Kainerugaba, who also serves as national chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, was accompanied by the state minister for sports, Peter Ogwang, officials from the National Council of Sports and the mayor of Hoima City during the inspection of Hoima City Stadium.

In a statement, the UPDF said Gen. Kainerugaba emphasized the importance of preserving the stadium’s quality and ensuring that similar standards are applied to future infrastructure projects.

“The facility must be maintained at the highest level,” Gen. Kainerugaba said, according to the UPDF statement. “We must ensure that this world-class standard is replicated in other projects across the country.”

Hoima City Stadium is one of three venues in Uganda selected to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The multi-purpose stadium forms part of Uganda’s preparations to meet Confederation of African Football requirements for hosting the continental tournament.

Officials said the facility represents a strategic investment in sports infrastructure aimed at strengthening Uganda’s capacity to host international competitions. The government has positioned this stadium as a key venue within the Hoima economic hub, which has seen increased infrastructure development linked to oil and gas activities in the Albertine region.

Gen. Kainerugaba reiterated that proper maintenance of sports facilities is essential to support talent development and enhance Uganda’s competitiveness in international sport.

“Providing top-tier facilities and ensuring their proper upkeep is central to nurturing talent and achieving success on the global stage,” he said.

The National Council of Sports, which oversees sports infrastructure and management, was urged to prioritize operational standards and sustainability measures for the stadium and other facilities under its supervision. State Minister Peter Ogwang said the ministry remains committed to ensuring readiness for AFCON 2027.

“Our focus is to guarantee that Uganda fulfills its obligations as a host nation,” Ogwang said.

The 20,000-seat Hoima City Stadium includes modern seating, media facilities and multi-sport capabilities designed to accommodate football and other events. Government officials have described it as part of broader efforts to modernize sports infrastructure nationwide.

Uganda’s co-hosting of AFCON 2027 marks a significant milestone for the country’s sports sector. Authorities have stated that investments such as Hoima City Stadium are intended not only to support the tournament but also to leave a lasting legacy for local communities through improved facilities and economic activity.

As preparations continue, officials say inspections and oversight visits will remain part of ensuring that Hoima City Stadium and other designated venues meet continental standards ahead of the tournament.
