UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | National Social Security Fund (NSSF)’s Solana housing project in Lubowa, Central Kampala wins big at the International Property Awards in London.
Solana, NSSF’s lifestyle and residences project, won two awards: Best Mixed Use Development Uganda and Best Residential Development Uganda. The project bagged two awards at the Africa and Arabia Property regional awards, which puts NSSF among the top competitors at the grand finale that will take place at the end of the year.
“The five-star awards give us an opportunity to showcase NSSF, Solana Lifestyle and Residences, and our country’s achievements on the world stage; a confirmation that taking the bold decision to build Solana was the right one, and that what is being done is in the interests of the Fund members. It firmly positions the Fund as a large-scale developer of substance in Uganda and the region,” Patrick Ayota, the Deputy Managing Director, said.
Solana Lifestyle and Residences Project
NSSF will implement the project over the next 10 years, in ten phases. The real estate project spreads across 600 acres in Lubowa, Wakiso District. The first phase is ongoing, which comprises 311 high-end housing units, i.e., villas, apartments, townhouses, etc. which world class infrastructure and facilities.
Patrick Ayota explained that extensive market research led to NSSF taking this bold step towards the development of Solana housing project. He explained that the project is an original concept and will be the first of its kind not only in Uganda but in East Africa at large.
“Over the years, the land has developed into an exceptionally well-located upmarket destination surrounded by existing infrastructure, desired facilities, and expensive residential housing. This led us to reconsider the original development plan of constructing affordable housing, in order to determine the highest and best use,” Ayota claimed.
International Property Awards
The International Property Awards celebrate the highest level of achievement by organisations that work in the property and real estate sector. International Property Awards is a world-renowned mark of excellence. The award celebrates its 28th year this year and covers over 45 residential and commercial categories.
An independent panel, which has 80 global industry experts, judges the awards. The International Property Awards panel cites the following criteria for consideration to give their award; design, quality, service, innovation, originality and commitment to sustainability.
NSSF and Real Estate
At present, NSSF owns over 2000 acres of prime land in Kampala and surrounding areas. Their policy comprises “unlocking value on prime land acquired through land banking over the years.” NSSF also owns Mbuya Citadel Place, another high-end housing project and is also constructing affordable housing in Kyanja and Temangalo.
