UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The National Unity Platform (NUP) chairperson, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, officially unveiled the foundation stone upon which the party’s new headquarters will be constructed, at a ceremony at the new site on July 12, 2022.
The National Unity Platform (NUP), one of the opposition parties in Uganda, will construct its new headquarter-offices at Makerere Kavule, situated along Bombo Road in the Kawempe Division, near the suburb of Bwaise.
The NUP leaders, divisional council members, mayors, and a few members of parliament, led by the opposition leader Mathias Mpuuga, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Bobi Wine said they chose to leave their former offices in Kamwokya because it was too small for various party functions.
“For several months now, we moved to acquire land in Makerere/ Bwaise area for this purpose. Those who dismissed us as a mere wave will soon realise that we are a serious group, committed to leading the liberation struggle to its accomplishment. The things we continue to do are part of that process,” said Bobi Wine.
“We are doing this to show that even though this idea started with me, it is not mine alone. This is now your home. It is the headquarters of the incoming government,” he added.
Kyagulanyi said that bigger party activities will be accommodated at the new headquarters. The former party offices in Kamwokya will be preserved and converted into a youth training centre.
Joel Senyonyi, a spokesman for the NUP, also chairperson of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), said the party needs these new offices because it has rapidly expanded since its establishment.
He added that in addition to contributions from party officials and donations from party supporters in the diaspora, money from parliament was also used to purchase the three plots of land where the new offices will be built.
He stated that the construction of the new offices will begin soon.
