UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo, expressed gratitude towards President Museveni for his decisive action in preserving Muslim properties.
The Deputy Mufti, also serving as the interim Mufti, commended President Museveni for utilising his prerogative powers to advise Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo on reevaluating a Court of Appeal decision permitting the sale of properties belonging to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.
Sheikh Ssemambo highlighted the president’s intervention during his visit to fellow Muslims in the western region, where he led Juma prayers at Abubakar Jamia Masjid Kakoba in Mbarara City amidst heightened security.
President Museveni’s letter, dated December 7, 2023, conveyed surprise at the court’s decision to auction Muslim property due to an individual’s mistake.
The President’s letter explicitly called for a review of the court’s ruling, emphasising the need to restore order, especially in cases where existing laws fail to protect mosques and other significant Muslim assets.
Accompanied by Hajji Abdu Kiyimba, Hajji Mirembe Hamza, and new leaders from the commission investigating mismanagement of Muslim properties, Sheikh Ssemambo voiced his expectation that the inquiry would yield comprehensive findings within six months.
Addressing the Muslim community during Juma prayers, Sheikh Adam Abas emphasised the importance of unity and discouraged blame games.
He urged Muslims to focus on the broader goal of promoting Islam, fostering development, and social transformation.
Drawing an analogy, Sheikh Abas compared addressing challenges within the Muslim community to removing a thorn from the foot with care, advocating for constructive solutions rather than divisive approaches.
In addition to expressing gratitude for President Museveni’s intervention, Sheikh Ssemambo pledged efforts towards reconciliation within the Muslim community.
He highlighted the collective goal of achieving unity, development, and combatting negative elements such as terrorism, which tarnish the image of the Islamic faith.
Deputy Mufti’s visit underscored the significance of preserving and protecting Muslim properties, reinforcing the commitment to religious harmony and societal well-being.
