UGANDA, Entebbe | Real Muloodi News | Eight suspects have been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison over alleged Entebbe land grabbing, forcible entry, malicious damage to property, and theft. The Entebbe Magistrate’s Court set its next appearance for February 28, 2025.
According to a February 14, 2025, statement by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the accused include Alex Sserungaya Mukisa, Peter Kajubi, Henry Ddungu, Ramanthan Nnaku, Godfrey Kaweesi, Robert Ngesa, Asuman Mukiibi, and Joseph Mugweri. Several other suspects remain at large.
The Anti-Corruption Unit stated that on January 21, 2025, the suspects allegedly entered a 68-acre parcel of Entebbe land on Block 428, Plot 192 (formerly Plot 22), belonging to Professor Eleanor Maxine Ankrah.
“They destroyed 18 acres of trees and crops and maliciously damaged property on the land,” the statement read in part.
The suspects allegedly acted on the instructions of bibanja (tenant) claimants, including William Lutaaya, Nnalongo Winfred Kaita Bakumba, Edward Kalenzo, Anthony Osowa, and Robert Kayigwa.
Court records indicate that the bibanja holders had entered a High Court consent agreement, allowing the complainant to allocate 18 acres among them.
However, before the allocation could occur, a group allegedly led by Aaron Ssebagula, a former convict with a record of land fraud, forcibly entered the Entebbe land on February 8 and 9, 2025.
The group reportedly cut down trees and crops and sold them to unknown buyers. Authorities intervened, arresting some individuals while investigations continued to locate Ssebagula and others.
The arrests and charges resulted from a joint effort by the Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The court proceedings will determine the legal course of action regarding the disputed Entebbe land, as law enforcement agencies continue their investigation.
