UGANDA, Namuwongo | Real Muloodi News | Police in Kampala are investigating the tragic circumstances under which five family members including a husband and wife and their three children died in a house fire in Yoka Zone Namuwongo, Bukasa Parish in Makindye, Kampala.
The deceased have been identified as Steven Luyomba, his wife Doreen Nafula and their three children Sumei Lubega aged 16, Edith Naiga aged 15 and Andrew aged 7.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, said that the fire started around 2 am in the morning on Wednesday 23rd November, 2022.
“It is alleged that the fire started from an unattended candle from a makeshift house of Ogola Charles who deals in picking plastics, and later spread to the house of Luyomba Steven, 50, killing everyone,” Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
He explains that the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services managed to extinguish the flames, while urging the public against leaving fires unattended as they are dangerous to others in case of an accident.
The tragedy comes only four weeks after an overnight fire gutted Salama Boarding School for the Blind in Mukono District, claiming the lives of 11 young girls. The incident took place on Tuesday 25 October at midnight.
