UGANDA, Iganga | Real Muloodi News | St Paul Senior Secondary School-Nasuti in Nambaale Sub-County, Iganga District, temporarily closed after a fire broke out in a girls’ dormitory on Thursday, 27th July 2023.

The incident caused property damage and resulted in some students fainting, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

The dormitory, accommodating around 120 students, primarily in the candidate classes of Senior Six and Four, caught fire during morning class hours when all students were outside the dormitory.

Despite the property loss, the school’s head teacher, Mr Jonathan Kiirya, confirmed that 26 students who fainted in the aftermath were promptly taken to Iganga-Nakavule Hospital.

Thankfully, they have since been discharged and sent home.

While the exact cause of the fire outbreak is still under investigation, the school’s management has ruled out an electric short circuit as the cause, as there was reportedly no power supply at the time.

Authorities, including the Busoga East Police, are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

As a result of the fire’s impact, the school’s management has taken the precautionary measure of closing the institution for three days, from Friday until Monday.

During this period, efforts will be made to address the situation and restore the normal functioning of the school.

The affected students are receiving support from the school management and well-wishers to replace their bedding and scholastic materials.

Fundraising initiatives have begun, with generous contributions from various stakeholders.

High Court judge David Batema has directed the school to obtain timber from his forest for re-roofing. At the same time, the Iganga District Local Government has offered iron sheets to aid in the restoration process.

With support from various individuals and organisations, the school aims to restore the burnt dormitory within approximately three weeks.

The response from the community and authorities showcases their commitment to the welfare and education of the affected students.

The authorities are diligently working to uncover the cause of the fire, and additional information will be shared once the investigation is complete.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, and the focus remains on supporting the students and repairing the damages.
