UGANDA, Nakaseke | Real Muloodi News | In a joint operation, the Anti-Corruption Unit at State House Uganda, collaborating with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), has brought Mugume Deus before the Nakaseke Chief Magistrates Court over charges of land title fraud.
The charge levied against him is Fraudulent Procurement of Registration of Title. As a result of this, he has been remanded in custody until 08/02/2024.
The case revolves around the alleged fraudulent procurement of the registration of a land title, specifically Block number 796 plot 79 in Bulemezi-Rukumbi, measuring 70 acres.
The accused, Mugume Deus, is accused of manipulating the registration process, claiming ownership of the land originally owned by his mother, Nyiramafaranga Margret.
According to the charges, Mugume Deus engaged in forging transfer forms, falsely indicating that his late grandmother, Kangyezi Jenesta, who passed away approximately a year ago, had signed them.
The deceptive documents were then utilised to facilitate the transfer of ownership of the family farmland.
Subsequently, the accused reportedly sold the land to an individual named Ruta Ngambwa. Notably, Ruta Ngambwa is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit due to multiple land-grabbing cases filed against him in various areas of Greater Luweero.
In a similar case, the Anti-Corruption Unit has been actively involved in investigating fraudulent land transactions.
In a previous instance, the unit successfully exposed a syndicate involved in forging land titles in collaboration with corrupt land officials. This syndicate was involved in several cases across different regions, jeopardising the credibility of the land registration system.
