Massive Fire Guts Nina Interior Warehouse Causing Significant Losses

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | A fire broke out at the Nina Interior Warehouse on 7th Street in Kampala’s Industrial Area on Monday 12th August,2024, resulting in the loss of property valued at millions of shillings.

The fire, believed to have started due to an electrical short-circuit, was detected by passersby and quickly escalated, prompting a response from the Uganda Police Department fire brigade.

The fire was first noticed around 10:00 a.m., according to a police officer from Kisugu Police Station who requested anonymity.

“The fire started slowly and was not immediately noticed, leading to significant damage before it was detected. Fortunately, the fire brigade was informed and responded quickly,” the officer said.

By 10:30 a.m., police fire trucks had arrived at the scene and began ferrying water to combat the blaze. Residents also joined in, using buckets to assist the fire brigade.

The team was able to connect to a nearby National Water and Sewerage Corporation hydrant, which provided the necessary water supply to tackle the fire effectively.

Assistant Inspector of Police Elly Walusimbi described the fire as deep-seated, which made it difficult to extinguish.

“Such fires take time and a lot of water because they start from below the surface, making it hard for water to reach the source of the fire,” Walusimbi explained.

The fire caused extensive damage to the Nina Interior Warehouse, destroying carpets and chairs. The total value of the property lost in the fire has not yet been officially assessed, but it is estimated to be in the millions of shillings.

Four staff members of Nina Interiors were present at the scene, watching as the fire brigade worked to contain the blaze.

They declined to comment on the situation but indicated that a statement would be issued at a later time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although initial reports suggest that it may have been triggered by an electrical short-circuit.

The authorities are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact cause and to assess the full extent of the damage.

The collaboration between the fire brigade and the local community in this instance was instrumental in containing the blaze and preventing further damage.
