UGANDA, Kampala Real Muloodi NewsMinister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda, has warned that Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) including their deputies who are lazy or not performing their duties risk losing their jobs.

Speaking during a capacity-building workshop for RDCs and RCCs from central Uganda, Babalanda cited an example in Masaka City where two elderly individuals suffered from land grabbing due to the RDC’s inaction.

She warned that those who are found to be non-performing will be dismissed on the spot, rather than transferred.

Babalanda emphasised that RDCs and RCCs should be the voice for the voiceless and should not carry out evictions without consultation with affected parties.

Babalanda further stated that RDCs should stop embarrassing President Museveni due to their greed and corruption, adding that there is no excuse for ignoring the president’s directives.

The minister urged RDCs to avoid being a nuisance in their areas by begging for money, which she claimed spoils the image of the government.

She also said that she had given guidelines to RDCs and RCCs to follow, and those who do not perform will be dismissed from their positions.

Some RDCs have accused wealthy individuals of falsely accusing them without evidence.

They argued that land grabbers hide behind the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to sabotage their efforts. For instance, the Kiboga RDC, Mathias Lutwama, noted that some people even threaten them with guns when they intervene in land disputes.

Babalanda urged RDCs and RCCs to help families during evictions and avoid looking on when they take place.

She urged them to be accountable and not to undermine the president’s directives.

She also warned them not to allow greed and corruption to make them repeat the same mistakes.

Minister Babalanda’s warning comes when land eviction all over the country has become rampant yet sometimes with the assistance of the RDCs and RCCs.
