UGANDA, Mbale | Real Muloodi News | Raphael Magyezi, the Minister of Local Government, has ordered inquiries into the Mbale District Land Board members. This comes after the alleged illicit sale of land in Mbale City’s Northern Division belonging to the old Nakaloke Town Council offices.

The estimated 40-acre plot was purportedly sold to private developers. This property is home to the council building, the magistrate’s court, the football field, and a Youth Center.

Magyezi also ordered the suppression and imprisonment of Aron Mulyanyuma, the then-town clerk of Nakaloke Town Council. Mulyanyuma and the Mbale District Land Board have been accused of conspiring with certain councillors to sell the land to Ismail Mukakandi, the Workers’ Representative at Mbale City Council, and other land developers.

Residents accused Mulyanyuma of orchestrating the sale and leasing of City land.

Mulyanyuma, who had subsequently elevated to City Planner, was then turned over to the police for further investigation.

According to the minister, he will also prosecute former Mbale District Chief Administrative Officer Esau Ekachelan, suspected of unlawfully acquiring part of the disputed Nakaloke Town Council property.

On Friday, Magyezi told Nakaloke villagers that he had received complaints that the land board is behind the unlawful sale of the health centre property, water sources, police land, the court, abattoir, and pathways.

Magyezi states his office will organize a commission to investigate property sales, leases, and other land transactions in Mbale District and City.

Victoria Keri Hussein, a resident of Najja Ward, informed the minister that they sold a portion of her land to property developers. She has sought restitution in various offices but her efforts were futile

The minister urged property developers not to acquire government land because they risk losing money.

The State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Peter Ogwang, who joined Minister Magyezi on the visit to Nakaloke Town Council, said all leases on the land should be cancelled.
