UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | President Yoweri Museveni has empowered Minister Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Land, Housing, and Urban Development, to end illegal land evictions in Uganda.

Minister Nabakooba reported that her office had received multiple complaints about the fear of evictions and the lack of support for efficient processes. People find it difficult to access services and are not aware of the steps to take when facing illegal eviction.

How the Ministry of Lands is stopping Illegal Evictions

Minister Nabakooba commented that “a lot of the transactions and services are disconnected, making it very frustrating for many people.”

Therefore, she proposed streamlining all services and operations across the entire land sector through technological innovations.

The first step towards this was to establish a Toll-Free line for citizens to call regarding land issues. The number is 0 800 100 004. The call centre is available to provide timely information on various subjects relating to illegal land evictions.

Besides reporting land issues, citizens can use the toll-free to report incidents of corruption and bribery, follow up on complaints, delayed land transactions, compensation, valuation issues, fraud, and forgeries.

Moreover, the public can use the toll-free line to report unsatisfactory service delivery, employee misconduct and receive feedback from the Ministry.

Lastly, the ministry hopes to use this as a platform for citizens to inquire about projects under the Ministry and share any other concerns in the Lands, Housing, and Development Sector.

Minister Nabakooba has vowed that fighting illegal land evictions is a priority for her office. She assured the public of the usefulness of the toll line and said, “Our call center agents are well connected to all the relevant law enforcement agencies in the country. When an issue is reported through the toll-free line, our agents will mobilize the relevant authorities to respond immediately.”

Nabakooba also plans on setting up a public online portal and the call centre to digitalize the sector. She aims to streamline processes by bringing them online and removing intermediaries in land matters to improve ministry response and delivery.

Call 0 800 100 004 to report cases of illegal Land evictions, incidents of corruption and bribery; delayed land transactions, general poor service delivery and absenteeism within the Lands Ministry.
