UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi NewsThe Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, has set up an online Lands Public Information Portal where Ugandans in-country and in the diaspora can do searches and obtain quick results regarding land titles, land transaction status and any land information.

“In the beginning of the new year, I pledged to launch the Lands Public Information Portal developed by the ministry in partnership, as part of government initiatives to implement Article 41 of the Constitution which provides for access to Information to citizens,” Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Lands said at the launch of the portal.

“I believe that the commissioning of this public portal will achieve transparency and good land governance and respond to citizens’ information requests instantly. Citizens in the country and those in the diaspora can access this public portal,” she noted.

Nabakooba stated during the launch of the Uganda National Land Information Portal in Kampala on Wednesday that the system intends to revolutionise and improve service delivery in Uganda’s land sector and eliminate go-betweens. This will help in the fight against corruption.

The Lands Public Portal will limit public interactions with land registry officials and make land services accessible to landowners and users.

“There will be a reduction on interfacing with the Lands Ministry staff, some of whom have been purportedly accused of corrupt tendencies and delays in providing land-related information for decision making,” Nabakooba added.

Users will have to register first, swiftly and easily via the site https://www.ugnlis.mlhud.go.ug/, and they will be charged USh 10,000 for each search.

“The purpose of the public portal is to provide citizens with instant search results for land titles, the status of land transactions and verification of parcel details upon payment of a search fee of 10,000 shillings per search,” she said.

“The searches performed for registered users shall allow for fast access to accurate information on the ownership, encumbrances and location of land,” Nabakooba said.

The KCCA Ministry Zonal Office (MZO), which oversees mailo, freehold, and leasehold land titles in Kibuga and a portion of Kyadondo, will be the first on the Land Information System.

According to Nabakooba, the 22 additional MZOs around the nation will be added gradually, and by the end of June 2022, all MZOs will be connected.
