UGANDA, Jinja | Real Muloodi News | Residents of Jinja City are anticipating the completion of a new high-rise building on Lubas Road, which is expected to become the tallest tower in the city and change the face of the city. This project, known as the “Jinja City Facelift,” aims to provide office space and create employment opportunities while enhancing the city’s skyline.

The building, currently under construction, commenced in 2021 and is projected to be completed by 2026. As of now, the structure has reached the 11th floor out of a planned 14 floors.

Mr Aggrey Mugisha, the site engineer, provided details about the building’s purpose and design.

It is a commercial building that will have office space from the ground floor to the second floor, while the rest of the floors will be residential apartments,” said Mr. Mugisha in an interview.

However, Mr. Mugisha declined to disclose the cost and ownership of the building, stating, “It is for a family whose identity I am not authorised to disclose.”

Jinja City Mayor, Mr. Peter Okocha Kasolo, highlighted the potential impact of this and similar projects on the city’s development.

He noted that both local and international investors are contributing to the construction of multi-purpose buildings, which are expected to attract businesses and create job opportunities.

I encourage the people of Jinja City to start appreciating the office of the city planner to have their building structures approved by the department for support,” Mr Kasolo said.

He emphasised the importance of involving city planners to ensure orderly development.

The mayor also pointed out that the rehabilitation of major roads in the city is likely to spur further business growth.

He remarked, “With the rehabilitation of some major roads in the city, more businesses and companies are going to sprout.”

Residents and local business owners have expressed optimism about the ongoing developments. Mr Ibra Kasajja, a boda boda rider on Lubas Road, shared his thoughts on the new building.

The structure will beautify Jinja City and also encourage those who want to build commercial structures to do the same,” he said.

The new building on Lubas Road joins other significant structures such as Igar Plaza on Main Street, Nabirye House, and Tata Owen Plaza, all of which contribute to the evolving appearance of Jinja City.

Several officials and residents have provided their perspectives on the Jinja City facelift.

These developments are crucial for the economic growth of Jinja City,” said an official from the city planning department. Another resident stated, “We are excited about the new opportunities these buildings will bring.”

The completion of this new tower is expected to set a precedent for future developments in Jinja City. It represents a shift towards modern urban planning and development, aligning with global trends in city development.

The involvement of both local and foreign investors indicates a growing confidence in the city’s potential for economic growth.

In addition to new buildings, the city’s infrastructure is also undergoing significant improvements. The rehabilitation of roads and the development of public amenities are part of a broader plan to make Jinja City more attractive to businesses and residents alike.

The construction of the new building and other similar projects are expected to generate numerous economic benefits.

These include increased employment opportunities during and after construction, higher property values, and a boost in local businesses due to increased foot traffic and demand for services.

While the new developments are largely seen as positive, some challenges need to be addressed. Ensuring that construction projects comply with safety and environmental standards is crucial. Additionally, maintaining affordability for residents amidst rising property values is an ongoing concern.

The “Jinja City Facelift” through the construction of new high-rise buildings and the improvement of infrastructure marks a significant step towards the modernisation and economic development of Jinja City.

As the new tower on Lubas Road nears completion, it symbolises the city’s ambitions and potential for future growth.

With continued investment and careful planning, Jinja City is poised to become a vibrant urban centre, attracting businesses and residents alike.
