UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | In a dramatic turn of events, Paddy Sserunjogi, widely known as Sobi, a notorious suspected killer and former operative with the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), met his demise in a land dispute in Gomba District.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 pm in Kibaale Village, Kigumba Parish, Maddu Sub-county, where approximately 50 individuals armed with various weapons attacked another group asserting ownership of a piece of land claimed by an individual named Kalisa.
The genesis of the dispute lies in the questioned ownership of the land in Gomba, allegedly purchased by Kalisa for USh100 million in 2007, with only USh20 million paid.
A conflicting group, purportedly consisting of the children and grandchildren of the late Paul Kibi, led by Deborah Nagadiya and Barton Kiwewa, emerged, presenting land titles asserting their ownership.
Legal proceedings were initiated, but tensions escalated as the second group imported individuals from Kisenyi in Kampala to occupy the disputed land.
Police spokesperson SP Majid Karim explained, “They went up to court, and before it’s sorted, the second group also brought other thugs from Kisenyi in Kampala to stay on that land as they cleared the unwanted grass.”
Kalisa’s faction reportedly hired individuals from other areas to counter Sobi’s group.
RDC Harriet Nakamya stated that Sobi’s gang had allegedly been hired by Kiweewa, Nabakka, and Nagadya.
The clash, which unfolded at the son’s house, involved extensive destruction of property, including food, utensils, and structures.
Further, the group is implicated in additional killings, although only one body, bearing cut wounds on the leg and neck, has been recovered.
Sobi’s body was transferred to Gomba hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while detectives at Kanoni police station continued their inquiries into the incident.
Sobi’s notoriety dates back to his alleged reign of terror in Kampala City, where he led a gang of 30 to 50 men involved in various criminal activities, including petty theft, robbery, and murder.
Despite numerous arrests and convictions of his gang members, Sobi often secured release on bail, prompting allegations of preferential treatment by the magistrates.
Initially, a police informer turned rogue, openly admitting to his involvement in criminal activities, Sobi found an unexpected path when he was assimilated into ISO by the former director-general, Kaka Bagyenda.
However, his criminal activities persisted, and in November 2021, he was arrested alongside 28 members of his gang for attempting to raid a village in Wakiso District, where he had forcefully fenced off four acres of land in a swamp near Kireka-Bbira.
The recent violent confrontation in Gomba adds a new chapter to Sobi’s controversial and criminal history, bringing an end to a figure known for his involvement in Kampala’s dark underworld.
