Police Arrest Driver Who Rammed into Mayor Lukwago’s Home

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Kampala City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has escaped death after a car rammed into his home on the evening of Saturday December 3rd at 7pm in Lukwago Road, Mengo in Rubaga Division.

Police in Kampala are holding the driver of Subaru UAJ 704K who allegedly lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the residence, leaving one person injured.

“A short while ago, an overhasty and reckless driver of this Subaru car Reg.UAJ 704K rammed through the main entrance to my house, the gate forcefully flung open and badly damaged, and the over speeding car then rammed into the pillar at the entrance to the sitting room,” Mayor Lukwago said in a statement posted to social media.

“The huge bang shook the whole house, and the children who were watching soccer in sitting room started wailing,” he added.

It has been reported that the owner of the car was with his wife, but after causing the accident he fled the scene, leaving his injured wife behind. She was rushed to the hospital as the police sought to find the man who caused the accident.

“The lady who was seated in the co-driver’s seat sustained serious injuries and has been rushed to the hospital. Luckily enough, [my] family is safe, but some members are gripped by nervous shock. I’m yet to understand the cause of this bizarre incident which has badly ravaged my home!!,” said Mayor Lukwago.

Police later identified the the driver of the car as Fred Kiweewa, and his passenger as Mariam.

“Mariam sustained minor injuries and is admitted at Mulago hospital while Kiweewa is now detained at Old Kampala Police Division as investigations into the matter continue.  Our team responded at the residence of the Lord Mayor to establish the facts behind the accident and more findings will be communicated in due course,” said Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire.
