UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Real estate tycoon Apollo Nyegamahe, popularly known as Aponye, and Chairman of NRM Rukiga District, tragically lost his life in a car accident on Thursday evening 6th July 2023.

The incident occurred in Itojo on the Kabale-Mbarara Highway, with reports indicating that Aponye was travelling in a Land Cruiser, registration number UBF 300Z, accompanied by another individual who sustained serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations by regional spokesperson Samson Kasasira reveal that the vehicle, headed towards Kabale, collided with a stationary motor truck with registration UAZ 767D FUSO.

The truck had been parked on the side of the road due to mechanical issues. The accident claimed the life of Aponye, and his body was taken to Itojo Hospital mortuary.

The injured individual was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

Aponye was a prominent figure in the business world and owned several enterprises under the company name Aponye Uganda Limited.

His business interests spanned various sectors, including real estate and production. Notable establishments associated with him include Aponye Mall in downtown Kampala, Mega Standard Supermarket, and Aponye Mall in Ntinda.

In addition to his business ventures, Aponye gained attention for his involvement as a major supplier of COVID-19 relief food.

However, his selection for this role sparked controversy, and he faced scrutiny for supplying food of poor quality to Ugandans.

The incident further raised questions about the procurement process and the standards for providing essential relief during the pandemic.

The tragic car accident that claimed the life of real estate tycoon Aponye has left a void in the business community.

Aponye’s ventures made significant contributions to Uganda’s economy, and his presence will be missed.
