Real Muloodi Haruna Ssentongo Transforms Kisenyi Slum, Promises More

UGANDA, Kisenyi | Real Muloodi News | The Kampala suburb of Kisenyi is one of the fastest-growing downtown areas in Kampala City. Previously a renowned hub for criminals, the former ghetto has seen itself transform into an ever-developing business point in the city centre in the last couple of years. Crime, primarily drugs and robbery, which formerly characterised it, are slowly phasing out.

The Daily Monitor had an interaction with area residents, reminiscing Kisenyi’s past compared to the present. The newspaper also published their chat with Mr. Haruna Ssentongo – the central brain behind the slum’s rapid transformation.

“You would not walk through many places in the slum after 10 pm,” says Mr. Siraj Lubwama, a resident of the area, adding that by that time, thugs would start “patrolling.” “Most people there did not have toilets. They often used polythene bags to dispose of refuse, which they would by the roadside,” Lubwama adds.

With shopping malls sprouting on every road every day, Kisenyi has gained a magnificent outlook, becoming one of the fastest-growing suburbs of Kampala. The ever-developing infrastructure and transportation businesses have facilitated business growth, like the three Bus Terminals and two taxi parks in the area.

Real Muloodi Landlord: What Haruna Ssentongo Owns

Nakayiza Market, N. M Apartments, and Haruna Towers are some of the prominent establishments in Mengo-Kisenyi owned by Ssentongo under his Umbrella Company – Haruna Enterprises.

Allafrica.com quotes that with wealth worth over $420 million, Mr. Ssentongo also owns Segawa Market, Queens Supermarket, Nsangi Market, and Haruna Towers.

Away from Kisenyi, the Daily Monitor reports Ssentongo owns Haruna Shopping Mall in Ntinda, and Nakayiza Market. Nakayiza Market deals in agricultural produce. In this popular spot, traders bring merchandise from rural areas to sell. In contrast, Segawa Market, just next to Nakayiza, deals in bicycle, motorcycle, and automobile spare parts.

Ssentongo says he realised the slum needed elevation to the City’s standards amid the growing population, which increases business demand.

“We continuously seek and develop new business areas, employing state-of-the-art techniques besides innovation and creativity, keeping our market leadership. As a world-class organisation, we understand we exist to serve and satisfy our customers,” Ssentongo says.

With the acquisition of more land in Nakasero, Nakivubo, Munyonyo, and Kisementi, the business tycoon promises more.

“We handle all matters relating to real estate purchase, leasing, and maintenance, and we efficiently and effectively manage our properties.” “We work with government agencies and other external regulatory bodies on all matters relating to land and property matters,” Ssentongo says.
