Sudhir’s Private Luncheon for Cardinal Wamala’s 65th Priestly Anniversary

UGANDA, Nsambya | Real Muloodi News | Real estate muloodi, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, celebrated the 65th priestly anniversary of his close friend, Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, with an intimate luncheon on December 21, 2022.

Tycoon Ruparelia held the luncheon at Cardinal Wamala’s residence in Nsambya, Kampala, with select members of his community and close family.

The event also commemorated the Cardinal’s 96th birthday that happened the week prior.

Archbishop Augustine Kasujja and retired Papal Nuncio were also in attendance at the intimate celebration.

Cardinal Wamala hailed Dr. Ruparelia for his enduring friendship and support when he was Archbishop of Kampala, and after.

“I still remember vividly how you supported me when I was Archbishop of Kampala. I wish to express my profound gratitude to you for your love, care and generosity,” the Cardinal said in a brief speech at the event.

In his remarks, Dr. Sudhir recognised Cardinal Wamala for being an inspirational leader, and wonderful human being.

“Your Eminence, you are my role model,” he said.

“God has blessed you and has blessed us that you have lived a long life and you are with us. I have not come across a leader who is so humble like you. We thank God for everything,” he added.

Archbishop Kasujja likewise thanked Dr. Sudhir for his invaluable friendship with the Cardinal, and for his support to his ministry.

Cardinal Wamala who turned 96 on December 15, also celebrated 41 years as Bishop and 28 years as a Cardinal in 2022.

About Cardinal Wamala

Cardinal Wamala, the Archbishop emeritus of Kampala, was born on December 15, 1926, at Kamaggwa in the Diocese of Masaka.

He was ordained priest on December 21, 1957, in Rome.

On July 17, 1981, he was appointed Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana, before being ordained by Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga on November 22, 1981.

On June 21, 1988, he was promoted to the rank of Coadjutor Bishop of Kampala. Then on February 8, 1990, he succeeded Cardinal Nsubuga.

He was proclaimed Cardinal by St. John Paul II in the consistory of November 26, 1994, of the Title of S. Ugo (St. Hugh).

He retired as Archbishop of Kampala, on August 19, 2006.

Cardinal Wamala participated in the conclave of April 2005, which elected Pope Benedict XVI.
