UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has released its latest ratings for hotels and accommodation facilities across the country, providing travellers with valuable insights into the quality and services offered by various establishments.
Among the top-rated facilities are the Kampala Serena Hotel, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, and Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, each receiving a prestigious five-star rating.
According to UTB’s assessment, these three facilities have met the stringent criteria set for a five-star accommodation rating, reflecting their commitment to excellence in service delivery and guest satisfaction.
Additionally, eight accommodation facilities have been awarded a four-star rating, while 11 others have received a three-star rating.
The rating process involved a comprehensive evaluation by a multi-sector team with diverse expertise, assessing each facility based on established indices and grades.
Mr. Simplicious Gessa, the UTB spokesman, emphasised the importance of this classification in setting visitor expectations and ensuring quality service delivery.
“This classification helps us to anticipate the type of service a visitor expects in a facility,” Mr Gessa stated.
He explained that each star rating is associated with specific requirements, ranging from amenities and facilities to service standards. For example, a five-star hotel is expected to offer luxurious accommodations, while a one-star establishment may provide simpler amenities and services.
The rating system, aligned with East Africa Community standards, categorises accommodation facilities into different types, including lodges, motels, restaurants, cottages, service apartments, town hotels, and tented camps.
Despite variations in facility types, the rating criteria remain consistent, with five-star establishments representing the highest quality and service standards.
However, Mr. Gessa clarified that participation in the rating process is voluntary, and not all establishments choose to undergo assessment. This voluntary participation explains why some well-known hotels, such as Speke Resort Munyonyo and Hotel Africana, did not feature on the graded list.
Commenting on the rating, Ms Joselyn Ngiine, the spokesperson for Kampala Sheraton Hotel, highlighted the hotel’s commitment to providing exceptional services and amenities.
“As Marriott International’s biggest global brand, the Sheraton brand is globally positioned and identified as the World’s gathering place with the community at the heart of its business operations,” Ms Ngiine stated.
She emphasised that the Sheraton Hotel offers a wide range of amenities, including transportation services, meeting spaces, dining options, spa facilities, and more, meeting the criteria for a five-star rating.
