UGANDA, Kisoro | Real Muloodi News | In a significant development for the economic landscape of Kisoro District, the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is making strides in the establishment of the Kisoro Industrial Park.

The allocation of 620 acres of Kibaya land in Bunagana and Rukundo Town councils to UIA by the Kisoro district authorities on August 18th, 2021, marked a crucial step in the realisation of this industrial venture.

The Director General of UIA, Robert Mukiza, provided a promising update during the 2023 Isangane Festival, an annual celebration of Bafumbira culture and heritage.

Mukiza, who served as the chief guest at the event held in the Kisoro Mayor’s gardens, expressed gratitude for the allocated land and assured the community of the project’s progress.

He conveyed that UIA had acquired the land title, conducted a feasibility study, and demarcated the borders, setting the stage for the upcoming phase of financing discussions and construction initiation.

Mukiza emphasised his commitment to materialising the dream of an industrial park in Kisoro, aligning with President Yoweri Museveni’s vision for the economic development of the region.

The Isangane Festival, organised by the Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association (UBUA), not only provided a platform for this announcement but also served a noble cause.

The festival’s objective is to support Maternal Health Care in the hard-to-reach Health Centre III in Kisoro District, showcasing a dual commitment to cultural celebration and community welfare.

The creation of industrial parks is a crucial component of Uganda’s national industrial agenda, championed by President Museveni.

In May 2021, the President approved the establishment of 25 industrial parks across all sub-regions of the country, forming a strategic part of the government’s vision to drive industrialisation.

Over the past six years, at least 15 industrial parks have already been established, contributing to the diversification and growth of Uganda’s industrial sector.

The government’s commitment to this initiative is underscored by the allocation of 130 Billion Shillings in October 2019, specifically earmarked to facilitate the establishment of 20 zonal industrial parks nationwide.

This financial support reflects the recognition of industrial parks as catalysts for economic development, providing employment opportunities, boosting local economies, and attracting investments.

The completion of land acquisition for the Kisoro Industrial and Business Park is a significant milestone for the region.

With the land title secured and borders demarcated, the project is poised to move forward pending the conclusion of the feasibility study and the formulation of a financing plan.

Mukiza’s assurance of the project’s progression instils confidence in the community and stakeholders, signalling a positive trajectory for Kisoro’s economic landscape.

As discussions on financing the construction of the industrial park take centre stage, collaboration between government agencies, private investors, and local communities will be critical for ensuring the success and sustainability of this ambitious venture.

The Kisoro Industrial Park holds the potential to be a transformative force, contributing not only to the economic vitality of the region but also to Uganda’s broader industrialisation narrative.
