UGANDA, Serere | Real Muloodi News | A fire at Shani Gardens Lodge in Serere Town Council resulted in the death of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer from Kaabong District. The incident occurred on the night of July 8.

Emmanuel Oluka, the deceased officer, had checked into his room with an unidentified woman for the night.

According to Edison Obukulem, the acting police spokesperson for East Kyoga, the fire started at approximately 11:00 p.m. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

“We are yet to establish the identity of the woman,” Obukulem said.

He added that when the fire broke out, Oluka was seen fleeing his room wearing only his underwear. Hotel staff attempted to extinguish the fire and rescue the woman.

Charles Egau, the manager of Shani Gardens, reported the incident to the Serere Police Station, suspecting arson. Police visiting the scene recovered UPDF uniforms.
