UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi News | Wakiso District police are investigating an unsettling incident where unknown gangs exhumed four bodies during the night due to a landrow.
The grave-robbing incident occurred on a Friday night on a five-acre parcel of land in Bukondo Village, Namayumba Sub-county, Wakiso District.
The land belongs to Mr. Jude Ssebaggala, and it has been used as a burial ground for some time.
According to family members, Mr. Ssebaggala purchased the land in 2010 from Ms. Dazy Nassiwa, who was the land’s administrator and the niece of the late Anna Nazibanja.
They claimed to have a land title given to them by the administrator upon the purchase. However, they were still in the process of transferring the land from Nazibanja’s name due to financial constraints.
The situation took a drastic turn when Ms Nassiwa, along with other individuals, allegedly sold the land again.
It eventually came under the ownership of Mr. Maxwell Katumba, who reportedly acquired it from Mr. Francis Karuzandaalo. Karuzandaalo, in turn, persuaded Ms Nassiwa to obtain a special title in her name.
As a result of these convoluted transactions, the land is now claimed by Mr Katumba, who denies involvement in the body exhumations. He stated that he bought the land for USh115 million and had paid USh81 million, emphasising that he was not responsible for the gruesome act.
Mr. Frank Wampamba, a brother of Nassiwa, acknowledged that they sold the land as a family to Ssebaggala but expressed confusion over how his sister had resold the land to another party.
Community leader Mr Moses Kibalama condemned the act, emphasising that the local community had not been informed about the exhumations. Two male suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody at Namayumba Police Station.
Mr Lawrence Kigozi, a member of the affected family, called on the Ministry of Lands to intervene in their situation, as the whereabouts of the exhumed remains remain unknown. The complex land dispute continues to unfold, leaving many questions unanswered.
