UGANDA, Obongi | Real Muloodi News | In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation towards the NRM government’s efforts in providing clean water, 70-year-old Mzee Mario Echonga of Obongi District has donated land worth 3 billion shillings for a water project in Obongi District.
The donated land will be utilised for the Ewafa Aliba water scheme under DRDIP, a significant development aimed at addressing water challenges in the area.
Mzee Mario Echonga, a resident of Drabijo Village in Drabijo Parish, Aliba Sub-county, made the generous donation, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of his community.
The donation of land for such a vital project highlights the spirit of communal support and solidarity within the region.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, along with District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Elyebu Denis and Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) engineering assistant Esaku Emmanuel, convened a meeting with Mzee Echonga to express gratitude for his selfless act.
During the meeting, they commended Mzee Echonga for his generosity and urged other landowners to emulate his example.
Mzee Echonga, in his interaction with the officials, shared his motivation behind the donation. He expressed his profound appreciation for the NRM government’s initiative to provide clean water to the Aliba and Ewafa sub-counties, marking a significant milestone in improving the quality of life for the residents.
The donated land, now under the management of Tashil Uganda Ltd, serves as a critical component of the water project.
With efficient utilisation, the land has become a vital water source, capable of producing over 15,000 litres of water per hour. This water resource is channelled through 20 public standpipes, each equipped with 2 taps, ensuring accessibility to clean water for the local population.
Additionally, a reservoir tank with a capacity of 160,000 litres has been established to facilitate efficient water storage and distribution.
Mzee Mario Echonga’s act of kindness serves as a testament to the power of community involvement and collaboration in addressing pressing socio-economic challenges.
His donation of land for the water project exemplifies the spirit of unity and collective responsibility towards achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in underserved areas like the Obongi District.
