UGANDA, Moroto Real Muloodi News On Thursday morning, tragedy struck Kanakomol Village in Naitakwai Parish, Nadunget Sub County in Moroto District when two women were stabbed to death in what is suspected to be a land dispute.

Police have released the names of the victims as Lopido Maritina, 68, and Anna Mary Nakoru, 38.

Up until her demise, Ms Nakoru was serving as the councillor for North Division in the Moroto Municipal Council. The incident has left the community in shock.

According to the police, the suspects, who are all residents of Campswahili Chini within Moroto Municipality, are still at large.

The scene in which the violent crime took place is on disputed land. Preliminary investigations indicate the parties involved are related extended family members who have been in a land dispute for a long time, according to Mr Mike Longole, the Moroto police spokesperson.

“The land matter is still in court. They were to appear on April 28 for further proceedings,” he added.

The mother and daughter were digging on the disputed land when they were attacked by the suspects who were armed with pangas, bows, arrows, and spears and stabbed to death.

“The suspects, after killing the two, other people who were digging took off,” Mr Longole said, adding that as of yet, no arrests have been made.

However, Mr Longole confirmed police visited the scene, documented everything, and that investigations are ongoing.

Police took the bodies of the deceased to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.

Mr Longole, has condemned the ruthless murder, saying that there are better ways of resolving land conflicts than resorting to murder.
