UGANDA, Hoima | Real Muloodi News | The Hoima City Stadium Construction, led by Turkish firm SUMMA, is advancing at an impressive pace, with significant progress achieved since the project commenced in July 2024.
The $129 million multi-sports complex, commissioned by the Ugandan government, is expected to be completed within 18 months, positioning Hoima City as a major hub for sports and events.
The stadium will include a 20,000-seater stadium, a 2,000-seater indoor arena, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, a training pitch, and outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and netball. Additionally, a parking facility with over 1,000 spaces is under construction, reflecting the project’s ambitious scale.
During a January 2025 site inspection, National Council of Sports (NCS) representatives, including Assistant General Secretary for Administration Joseph Oluga and Engineering Officer Nicholas Zirimenya, praised the progress and quality of work.
“We are impressed by the tremendous progress made in such a short time,” Oluga said.
The supervising consultants from the Ministry of Works and Transport also commended SUMMA for maintaining efficiency and adhering to high construction standards.
The stadium is part of Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Hoima City will serve as one of the host cities alongside Kampala. The development is expected to bolster Uganda’s sports infrastructure, with the stadium complementing Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
Construction is underway, with visible progress on the swimming pool and outdoor courts.
“This project is a testament to the government’s commitment to transforming sports infrastructure in Uganda and preparing Hoima City for its pivotal role in the 2027 AFCON,” Oluga noted.
The completion of the Hoima City Stadium is anticipated to enhance the city’s profile, foster economic growth, and boost sports tourism. Once operational, it will serve as a cornerstone for regional sports development and international events in Uganda.
