UGANDA, Luweero | Real Muloodi News | In a unified stand against the unjust practice of land grabbing, the Anglican and Catholic Bishops in Luweero, Uganda, have strongly condemned actions that lead to the displacement of vulnerable individuals and communities.

During their Christmas services, the religious leaders emphasised the importance of moral rectitude and justice in societal behaviours, specifically denouncing the act of land grabbing.

The Caretaker Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Luweero, the Rt. Rev. James William Ssebaggala focused his sermon on the urgency of addressing land grabbing during the Christmas Service at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Luweero Town Council.

Similarly, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, took a firm stance against individuals exhibiting selfish behaviour by seizing land.

In his Christmas homily at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Kasana Cathedral, Bishop Mukasa lamented the disturbing trend of powerful figures displacing peasants from their land for personal gains.

Drawing from the teachings of Jesus Christ, Bishop Mukasa highlighted the principles of kindness and consideration towards others, condemning actions that go against these values.

He particularly criticised the practice of acquiring extensive land areas or whole villages at the expense of displacing others, emphasising the need for a moral awakening in such matters.

Both bishops voiced their disapproval of another form of injustice associated with land – the issuance of multiple land titles for the same piece of land. This practice further compounds the challenges faced by vulnerable communities and individuals, leading to heightened conflicts and disputes over land ownership.

In their Christmas messages, the bishops called for ethical conduct and justice in all aspects of society, urging individuals to reflect on their actions and their impact on others.

By explicitly denouncing land grabbing, the religious leaders hope to draw attention to this pressing issue and encourage collective efforts toward a more just and equitable society in Luweero.
