UGANDA, Jinja | Real Muloodi NewsSecurity authorities have issued a directive prohibiting access to land on Plot 31-39 Nile Avenue for both Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and the Muslim community due to an ongoing legal dispute.

The decision, made during a meeting chaired by Jinja Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Darius Nandinda, follows consultations with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Lands and Uganda Lands Commission.

RCC Nandinda emphasised the need to maintain peace and order amidst the dispute, stating, “No construction is allowed on the land, and access is restricted until the legal matters are resolved.” Security forces have taken control of the area to enforce the directive.

Both parties involved have been summoned to a meeting in Kampala on April 17, convened by the Uganda Lands Commission and Ministry of Health officials.

The move comes in response to recent demonstrations by hospital staff, leading to disruptions in medical services.

Dr. Alfred Yayi, Director of Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, highlighted concerns over the perceived inaction of Jinja City leadership and security regarding the land dispute.

He expressed readiness to engage in discussions facilitated by relevant authorities to address the issue.

In a separate response, District Khadi Sheikh Ismail Adi Basoga refrained from commenting on the matter, deferring to the forthcoming meeting’s outcome.

The conflict traces back to a decision by Lands State Minister Sam Mayanja to allocate the contested land to the Muslim community.

Minister Mayanja asserted the land’s historical ownership by Muslims, citing constitutional provisions dating back to 1900.

He further invalidated any titles issued unlawfully on the land, invoking Section 91 of the Commission Land Registration Act.
