UGANDA, Nakawa | Real Muloodi News | Robert Twinomujuni, the tycoon behind Nakawa-based Ideal Hostels, is facing legal issues due to his alleged involvement in a land transaction.
Twinomujuni was charged and remanded to Luzira Prisons by Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court in mid April on charges of forging a land sale agreement.
According to the prosecution, Twinomujuni committed the alleged forgery alongside Samson Arinaitwe, who is the administrator of the land in question.
The alleged forged land sale agreement is dated June 16, 2020, and pertains to land measuring 60.8 hectares in Ntungamo District.
The state alleges that Twinomujuni and Arinaitwe knowingly presented a false document, a forged sales agreement dated June 16, 2020, purportedly signed by several individuals.
The state further alleges that between June and December 2020, Twinomujuni and others allegedly forged acknowledgements of receipt of money from the sale of land, misleadingly showing various individuals as having received proceeds from the sale of the land in Ntungamo.
An investigation into the situation has revealed that the troubles Twinomujuni is facing stem from a family feud over land ownership following the death of Semu Lugarama Ityaza, the patriarch of the family.
The two families involved have been embroiled in a dispute over the deceased’s estate, specifically the land in contention, for some time.
The land sale agreement was executed on June 16, 2020, between Twinomujuni and the registered proprietor of the land.
Twinomujuni’s due diligence through his lawyers reportedly confirmed the consent of the family to sell the subject land. Twinomujuni took possession of the land, and the agreed purchase price was USh800,000,000.
Twinomujuni paid the purchase price in several instalments to Samson Arinaitwe, who was the administrator of the estate. However, the total amount acknowledged in writing without dispute totalled USh505,500,000.
A section of family members who initially accepted the payments later denied receipt under the pretence that their signatures on acknowledgement receipts were forged.
These beneficiaries later filed cases with the Ntungamo police and the Mbarara High Court.
The High Court of Mbarara ordered a handwriting expert opinion on the alleged forged signatures, but the beneficiaries reportedly refused to participate.
Samson Arinaitwe provided evidence of payments to the beneficiaries, but disputes remained unresolved.
Twinomujuni reportedly wrote to the Resident State Attorney of Ntungamo to clarify his legal acquisition of the land and his innocence.
He handed over evidence to the police, who used these documents as exhibits in a civil case in Mbarara. Despite this, Twinomujuni faced difficulties due to what he described as a lack of proper investigation into the matter.
Twinomujuni’s case is ongoing, with legal proceedings continuing in May 2024. He was arrested on April 11, 2024, by armed police officers and detained at CPS.
He was presented in Buganda Road Court and released on bail on April 18, 2024.
Further developments and outcomes of the case remain to be seen, as legal challenges and the ongoing family feud continue to influence the land trouble surrounding Twinomujuni and his involvement in the land transaction.
