UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | President Museveni directed Uganda Land Commission (ULC) director Beatrice Nyakasiki to see that the Uganda Boxing Federation receives at least ten acres of land in Kampala to construct a Boxing Academy facility.
“Since the government has always supported the development of sports, identify and allocate at least ten acres within a radius of 30 miles from Kampala to them. However, clear covenants should be included in their lease agreement so that the government can repossess the land if they cannot develop it within a period,” said the President.
“They should also consult the Ministry of Education and Sports,” President Museveni added.
The Uganda Boxing Federation is a national governing boxing body responsible for the governance, development, and administration of boxing in the country. It showcases Uganda as a member of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). It oversees the administration of boxing in the country, both in clubs and in competition.
Moses Muhangi, a former Ugandan professional boxer, entrepreneur is the current president of the Uganda Boxing Federation, elected in January 2018. He is also an appointed committee member of both the Africa Boxing Confederation and the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
The federation secretariat has frequently asked the president to give them land for development of the boxing game. Boxing is one sport discipline that markets the country on the international scene with four Olympics medals. In the recently concluded Olympics in Tokyo, three boxers represented Uganda, including David Ssemujju, Shadir Musa and Catherine Nanziri.
