Govt Seeks USh 3.3 Billion to Rent Offices at Kampala Kingdom for President Museveni’s Advisors

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Government of Uganda is requesting a supplementary budget allocation of USh 3.3 billion to rent office space for 20 Special Presidential Advisors at Kingdom Kampala.

Business mogul Sudhir Ruperalia was contracted to provide office space at Kingdom Kampala for 323 Members of Parliament (MPs) at the cost of USh 18 billion for two years.

The additional space is to be secured for former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, former Security Minister General Elly Tumwine, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Amelia Kyambadde, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and Sarah Kanyike among others.

Dr Sudhir owns several properties around Uganda. The Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo, is well known for hosting state visitors. Most recently, the facility hosted visitors for the swearing ceremony of President Museveni in May 2021. Part of the supplementary budget comes out as a payment of USh 1.5 billion to the facility in Munyonyo.

Other Supplementary Budgets

Makerere University Chancellor, Mondo Kagonyer, is requesting USh 3.9 billion for the operationalisation of the Apex platform and USh 3 billion for learning, effective utilisation of monitoring and evaluation results and building capacity within the Office of the President. This fund supports the Office of the President in evidence-based reporting for all governmental projects, policies and programs. 

Minister for Economic Monitoring will be awarded USh 550 million to buy station wagons for himself and others. 

However, the committee has requested the team to look at their presentation and clarify where previously allocated funds were spent and what funds are required now.
