UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Kampala-based lawyer, Felix Kintu Nteza, is set to face trial on March 29th, 2023 at the Buganda Road Court over allegations of fraudulently obtaining UGX 195 million in a land transaction.
The trial follows the rejection of Nteza’s application to the High Court to stay in criminal proceedings regarding a 2013 land transaction in Wakiso District.
Through his lawyers, Nteza claimed that the criminal charges were similar to a civil case filed in 2014 that is still being considered by the land division, in which he is a party.
Nteza also argued that he was being maliciously prosecuted as he was not the seller or recipient of any money in the transaction and only signed as a witness.
The transaction in 2013 resulted in disputes between the purchaser, Interlink Educational Services Ltd, and the seller Eva Nannozi and her 12 siblings, leading to a case being filed at the High Court’s Land Division.
During the hearing, Nteza appeared in his signature forest black suit and black shoes, wearing a face mask, as his lawyers Anthony Tomusange and Kamoga Joshua unsuccessfully attempted to argue the trial’s dismissal due to the absence of the principal witness.
Proceedings were briefly interrupted when counsel Tomusange, supported by Nteza, tried to convince the presiding magistrate to exclude the media from the trial.
However, the request was handled with caution and the journalists were given guidelines on how to cover the issue, which was welcomed by the journalists in attendance.
